Pros

Pay was very competitive and benefits were some of the best I've had within the regulated utility industry.

Cons

Horrible management (or lack thereof). Consistently couldn't get in contact with my direct manager for multiple (4+) days at a time on critical project approvals. Got berated for non-issues by every level of management. Would be given a project and start work on it one week and be told a week later you were never assigned the project. Absolutely zero management going on here.

Pros

Good work life balance, culture is nice. People want to do a good job generally.

Cons

Some low performers in mid-upper management. an over emphasis on diversity and not as much on actual performance…

Horrible place to work

Pros

Good benefits, salary and some people.

Cons

Completely unethical place to work. Worked there almost 20 years and the last few years was awful. They have had “contractors” from a company, let’s call them “W” for privacy, working there for over 10 years, at least. These people have their own offices yet they’re called contractors. They make 3 times what others make and most don’t have a degree. And they’re doing things an engineer or accountant could do. One of the guys at this contracting company brings home A LOT of money (I’ve seen it bc of my former role) and his brother is a VP at NiSource. Hmm I wonder why they keep this company around. Years ago there was a project regarding contractors. All of the people from W were supposed to be gone by 2016 but they’re all still there and they fired the VP who headed up the project. Also they were supposed to start using the same criteria and standards that they use for NiSource employees, to hire these contractors and that never happened either. Also the VP of W works full time for NIPSCO even though he’s a “contractor” and he even has his own office. He is the one who manages the W people. He makes up fake emergencies where the W people have to come in and work a ton of overtime (all for money in his pocket, thanks to NiSource). Also most of these people get a weekly per diem, even though they’ve worked there 10 years. Bc they’re “contractors” from Virginia, Atlanta, North and South Carolina and other states. His girlfriend got a job there as a contractor and her last job was a party planner. No experience in a utility or as a project manager. Yet she was rolling in the money when she got that job. The whole thing is so unethical it’s insane. Most of the director and above are incompetent, have no clue what is going on, and then they just go and cut people and move people around constantly. So no one has a chance to learn their role. The Columbus people are awful to work with. They all think they’re the smartest people in the world and won’t listen to anything a NIPSCO person has to say. Even if they’ve been doing the job for years. They promote Columbus people to managers with no experience and who are clueless. Sometimes with no direct reports. I could go on for days but I’ll stop here for now. Oh and they fake the inclusion and diversity crap. It’s so forced it makes me sick. They don’t care about inclusion. They care about looking like they’re inclusive and that is it. And this all comes from an employee who had nothing bad happen to them. I can’t imagine how other former employees must feel.
