Pros

-You learn tons, but most skills are not transferable -Good diversity of clients in CPG to keep things interesting -Nielsen has good reputation in the business world, good add to the resume

Cons

-Senior management is mediocre. For example, attrition rates are pretty high, and promos are STILL frozen (after 15 months). People are not at the forefront of Nielsen -Lack of resources to do your job due to systemic failures. It can lead to very stressful circumstances as it feels like a project can be on the heads of the Analyst with minimal support from managers + leaders -Development of new excel workbooks are venerated as product innovation. This speaks for itself and echoes the general direction of the company of patching holes rather than truly reinventing and innovating -Crazy work hours and no regard for work-life balance. The expectation is that you will work as long as it takes to get the job done, even if it's on your vacation days

Pros

Nielsen used to be a wonderful place to work with smart people, a collaborative environment, and good work-life balance. Unfortunately, this has eroded over the past two years. Maybe it will be a wonderful place to work again.

Cons

Multiple restructures and rounds of layoffs over the past two years. Teams are understaffed, overworked and Senior leadership doesn’t provide a clear vision or direction.

Pros

Working remote is acceptable and will be continued even after COVID. Everyone here works hard and are over achievers. There's a lot to learn about media and market research. There's mentorship programs and employee clubs you can join. People are usually impressed when you tell them you work here. Nielsen is very inclusive and there are a lot of women in management roles.

Cons

Nielsen does not invest in their employees or our equipment. Our work computers are 7+ years old and constantly over heating and crashing. They don't update the tools we use so we are stuck using an outdated version of excel to do all of our job functions. There's unlimited PTO and you're allowed to take days off, but when you do you're expected to make up that work so time off just feels like procrastination and isn't relaxing. There's constant pressure not to miss deadlines. Overtime is expected the days leading up to deliverables, sometimes on past 10pm. In addition to your analyst job, you're expected to take part in initiatives to "stand out" among the other analysts. Growth is stagnant and they keep using COVID as an excuse even though these last 2 quarters were their most profitable in the company's history. It's crazy they announce that and then deny your entire department any kind of annual raises or promotions. They won't promote unless you've been there for years, but they make you work the next level up without any increase of salary to "prove" you deserve the position "one day". Management does not respect work life balance. They message you way after and before work hours and you're expected to hop back on at their beck and call.
