Better to avoid

Pros

Decent pay, health insurance, some clever colleagues

Cons

The company was purchased by PE in 2022 as a debt. Current leadership & long term employees structured a peculiar culture…sales leaders with no experience(just staying for years after graduated from university, doing some back office roles) were unable to show business directions, failed to deliver quota and put everything on subordinates for not delivering. It was really a joke and I am happy that I left that dysfunctional org. They don’t know how to set the sales targets and no brain to fix situation. They recently adopted sales force but because of inefficiency in leadership, they created excels and everyone was requested to keep them up-to-date …I hope someday they understand the proper use of salesforce. I found similar tendency among people worked only for Nielsen for long time. After the reorganization, those long term contributors(?) were given leadership(?) titles but they were not equipped with any skillset required for sales leaders. They happily put senior title roles and congratulate each other.. same type of people flock together and they are not first class. In my region, people say that a real brilliant people never consider to join this company and I understood it true. And it was a big mistake that I chose it. So my advice to job seekers is, better to avoid if you have anything else to do.

Pros

Unlimited PTO for North American staff Genuinely nice people to work with overall Interesting work I actually like and respect our CEO quite a lot and can’t lay all the blame for our recent catastrophes ar his feet Good work/life balance

Cons

I have loved working at Nielsen for many years, but am sad to say it seems to be in rapid decline since being taken private. The new owners seem to want to squeeze us dry - the recent firing-squad layoffs threw out a lot of babies with the bathwater and we now have a lot of legacy systems with no clear owners. Morale is low and it isn’t clear what the overall vision is. The recent decision to get rid of slack is another bungle and is going to haunt the company - with a remote, global workforce, pinching pennies on what is the de facto virtual office (especially for the tech org) is positively asinine. Google Chat is simply not ready for prime time…it doesn’t even support spaces with over 8000 users, whereas we have over 15k. The number of app integrations we use is vast. We were given literally ~3 weeks notice about the retirement of slack and there is zero content migration. I cannot emphasize enough that there is a *lot* of resentment about this. Previous (and still extant) cons: ——— Low salaries in competitive markets Overreliance on Tata Consulting for outsourced IT (abysmal overall, like your local cable company’s tier 1 customer service) Alot of lifers with a “we’ve always done it this way” mindset Innumerable archaic and inefficient processes/forms to fill out as though we were a dusty little 1990s insurance office instead of a modern, global data firm Terrible HR (and not enough of it, either!)

Pros

The perks are genuinely excellent and your company car is going to be better attended to than just about anything you could afford with the salary. A lot of your co-workers end up being very interesting and kind people. There is a significant amount of flexibility in your hours but it's a two-way street- work flexible hours and then management starts assuming you're available any day if the week at any time.

Cons

Management has little respect for your days off management comes up with a lot of "fun" meetings like a talent show, lunch hour without work talk, and quietly canceling then at the last second. They are also prone to telling you "find a time that's open in my calendar and let's do a call" , not responding, and then asking you to get on calls with less than 10 minutes notice. Although the company was generous and somewhat logical when we switched to working from home (with completely different work, basically an interim position at another department) , returning to the field aspect after that period has been almost offensively stressful. They act like being understaffed is your problem to solve not management's. It's a bunch of peppy, high energy language but at the end of the day they just want you to feel guilty for situations completely out of your control. All in all this is a legitimate company with a lot of upsides, but the MR position isn't really viable more than a year or two. It is DESIGNED to wear people down and i find it almost comical how badly they have treated the effects Covid has had on how the appointments work out. If you're interviewing I actually do recommend trying it out, just go into it knowing that realistically this is meant to be a position you hold a couple of years, make what bonuses you can (it's not bad) , and eventually get out and you realize how little you ever rested.
