Everyone is dissatisfied, high turnover

Pros

You can wear whatever you want? Discount of course...free parking.

Cons

Everyone is attracted to HauteLook now because they see "Nordstrom", but internally HL is a mess. Turnover is insane, there is no growth opportunity even though you're led to believe that in the interview process (among many other false promises), and everyone is paid SO far below market rate it's a joke. Everyone openly talks about how dissatisfied they are and that they are looking for new jobs, but no one in management or HR notices or cares. If you slack off and are incompetent, chances are you'll get promoted, while 30 intelligent employees will walk out the door in one week to better jobs with better pay, and their managers are left scratching their heads wondering why.

Pros

The company culture is very polite and stable. You will never feel like you are stressed or pressured to complete projects or work. Management is quite hands off. Office politics are muted and suppressed, so there is not a lot of backbiting and infighting. Many people have been here >10 years.

Cons

You will never feel challenged and you will never feel that management has your back. Teams are very siloed and you must play process and use the good old boy networks to get anything done. Knowledge is hoarded and very rarely shared, and while a "startup environment" is talked about by management, nothing is ever done. The long tenure of many employees leads to stagnant knowledge that is hoarded by one person.

Pros

Nordstrom is a great company; the Nordstrom family is extremely customer focused and the culture is built on relationships and customer service. A really wonderful company to work at and shop at.

Cons

The IT leadership is the good old boy system; leadership team are all yes men; many strong women leaders have been squeezed out of company
