Pros

Good benefits and pay. Salespeople get a good commission rate, benefits and flexibility. Lots of locations around the country to work and get promoted.

Cons

The happiest employees at Nordstrom are the salespeople. You can do your job well and be rewarded for it. If you choose a management path, you must be part of the "in group" to be truly successful. Upper level people often want to do it their way and are not as open to feedback and comments as would be expected in a culture of servant leaders and the inverted pyramid, that they often talk about. This last point is much more obvious if you work in the Northwest. I also worked with Nordstrom in other parts of the country and the experience was often very different.

Pros

There are so many different career paths and opportunities to explore that it is hard to get "stuck" in the muck. Just try something new and find what you love! The people are mostly friendly and helpful with a passion for what they do.

Cons

It sometimes feels as if the "be your own success story" is limited to sales associates and managers. There are no goals given to those outside the sales team so there is nothing to work towards. Also it is hard to explore around to random areas that you never come across.
