Pros

Cool/Hip to dress Good money (depending how good of a seller are you) Bistro Nice break room Air Conditioning Celebrities

Cons

Horrofic Managing "Grab by the neck" Selling Working on Commission Used Returns *No return policy* (Come's off your Commission) Co-Worker's jealousy and envy when having a Customer Co-Worker's stealing Customers Personal Trade Rude snobby customers (although that exist's everywhere) If you are working at "The Rail", You have to average atleast $1,300.00 in Sales or 50% above the department average or you are gone like the wind. Every customer who walks in your department KNOWS your job and will feel bad for you eventually. They'll be nice and buy something and return it back. (Comes off your Commisssion). You get a 45 day period review. Basically since your managers are using you to keep their own problems secure they'll toss you in a heartbeat. No one i've ever met actually survived Nordstrom more than 4 months. Things get ugly in this place people. Just giving you a fair warning. Because we are in the "bottom" of the Food Chain.

Pros

Nordstrom gives you the tools and resources to succeed. It is a sales job, so it is up to your own work ethic to make the commission. They teach you that customer service is the main commitment. So kill them with kindness.

Cons

Pay is inconsistent because it is pretty much commission based. Management is considered only for top salespeople, which is incorrectly identified because many salespeople lack leadership ability. Even the best salespeople in my department were only pulling in 40-50k. For retail that is good, but for life and supporting their 3 kids and wife, it is not. Especially when you see the larger portion of that commission only in the busy season. The slow season means cutting back. Inconsistency can really hurt you in a sales job.

Pros

Good pay and benifits. Good discount. Great experience. Everyone starts low and makes there way up - which is respectable.

Cons

To grow with in the company you have to make sales quotas.
