Pros

In terms of retail environments, the company does more than the bare minimum. You are given breaks and sufficient lunch time (not paid of course) if you work long enough.

Cons

Get ready to have no weekends holidays free ever. They don’t exist here. Customers range from decent to level 3 Karens, especially if there’s a full line store nearby. You will have to deal with thousands of dollars in returns daily, all of which go in different directions and must magically be ticketed even when the lines are wrapping around the checkout area. Scheduling will be a mess because this job burns people out. This is the hardest I’ve ever worked in retail, and when the entire store isn’t available you will feel it as managers blame the staff for being lazy.

Pros

Merchandise discounts to be used at any Nordstrom company, finding new merchandise on the salesfloor almost every month, a paid short break (10-15 min) included, paid holidays and paid time off

Cons

Tempted to buy everything, merchandises being moved around the store a lot that sometimes it's difficult to help direct customers to where an item is located, employees calling out makes working a busy shift difficult, CLEAR THE RACK are the worst especially when the store is short-staffed, dealing with hardheaded stubborn and spoiled customers who have never worked a day in their life. Due to the staff shortage at my location, I am put at work as if I'm a full-timer when I only asked to be part-time.

Pros

Flexible scheduling Fast paced the time flys by You stay busy-always something to do Employee discount 401k and stock options

Cons

Health insurance is pretty much non existent unless you are an assistant manager or above! They “dangle the carrot” by making you hit a set # of hours in order to get insurance but the irony is that they CONSTANTLY CUT HOURS! Along with the fact that it seems Ike I practically have to “beg” just to be scheduled 30-35 a week! I’ve been working there almost a year and still no health insurance bc I’m not being scheduled the hours that one has to have to be insured! It’s a trap. Good Dept Managers are few and far between... Managers have the “power” to block someone from wanting to promote or transfer to another store or dept bc you have to have your managers “blessing” to go, so if your manager doesn’t like something about you or if they’re just catty you’re screwed.
