Working in academia is a challenge

Pros

The benefits are great. I don't feel pressured to work a ton outside of normal hours, lots of opportunities to build out your skillset with training (DEI initiatives, up to 3 free courses/year, etc.)

Cons

Little opportunity for upward mobility. If you don't have a terminal degree (PhD, DVM, etc.) or work for the business school there is little/no chance you can become faculty. Staff is generally overworked and well underpaid...we're talking super motivated and exceptional people with Masters degrees making $40-50,000. Leadership doesn't seem to understand the shift in generations occurring in the workplace dictates a change in management philosophies and strategy.
