Pros

Decent base salary, nice office

Cons

Human Resources initially took too long and too many interviews. Once hired there was way too much bureaucracy and management played favorites with little regard to other employees.

Pros

Company and management spends a lot on outings and onsite events to try to keep employees happy, but it isn't working something needs to change internally.

Cons

If you are looking for an IT job in a work environment where you will get stockholm syndrome, talked down to, and treated like garbage then this is the place for you. Management will call you on vacation, when there are other resources available, to fix things. Management often hires the first warm body to enter the building so they can have a butt in the seat and then tries to come up with reasons to remove the person before probation time expires. Lots of turnover in IT, my last count was 120% in a one year period for just one manager. IT management is filled with sociopathic, inept, ineffective, and abusive individuals. Have been witness to management calling the business users names and/or saying that if they don't like something they can suck it. No time is dedicated to actually planning anything things out, everything is done in a "shoot from the hip" manner and often takes 3 or more attempts to properly complete. Management treats staff that they like with respect and everyone else like garbage. Managers are often inaccessible and if you manage to schedule time to discuss anything your meeting will be canceled or ignored for any reason. Management will often sit in meetings texting one another and ignoring the topic being discussed, text messages are often bad mouthing other individual(s) in the meeting (one manager accidentally left the apple app open on his laptop that let him text and several defamatory texts came in during a meeting). Management will not put anything in writing that they want done and often uses this for plausible deniability if an issue comes up. Management has no knowledge of how IT works or what best practices are, often needs handholding and/or several page documents to communicate simple change procedures and later ignores these documents saying what was presented or documented is to complex. Company is in the credit card industry but IT management often asks for all security measures to be removed from systems for no discernible reason, occasionally will state that it gets in the way and is making the systems to complicated to maintain.

I appreciate the time you spent to express your concerns with management in the IT space for which you were employed. It is unfortunate that you experienced this type of behavior. I want you to know, as the new CIO for North American Bancard, I am aware of some of the challenges and have already identified and started to address the areas that need improvement, but as with any initiative, it can take some time to institute a cultural shift. My approach is to focus on building a team that is empowered and engaged. We have an exciting opportunity at North American Bancard. We plan to open the door to new technologies and innovations as fast as we can. I encourage you check back with us, as I'm sure you will see a difference quickly.
