Northern can "lull" a person to sleep with itsability to make an individual feel comfortable. Advancement opportunities within management are based off of tenure a majority of times and not skill (but there are numerous exceptions). Salary at times can be below average to those employees whom were promoted internally. This creates a salary lag which might not ever be made up. Can be described as a consensous culture, which will create a longer decision making process.

Its greatest benefit is also one of its biggest disadvantages - though I appreciate the conservative stance the bank takes in the current bear market, in bull markest, they seems slow and unagressive. At one time I felt like I wanted to leave because the money was significantly better at other institutions but you don't get the work/life balance or stability Northern offers.
