Job stability, but management sub-par

Pros

Great benefits, easy to get to if you live in the city, and the staff in the department are awesome people.

Cons

Administrator overseeing the department has no idea what anyone does (regardless of the 25+ years employed here). Treats staff like chess pieces, invasive and bullying. This is not necessarily the case in all departments, which do vary in culteral climate. But working within the medical atmosphere is going to certainly yeild those with "holier-than-thou" complexes.

Pros

Great benefits, Great people, Work hours are flexible, Nice paid time off, Have chances for career advancement on many levels. Fun work environment

Cons

Pay can be kind of below market, but that is normal in university work. A lot of under achievers there to just get the minimum work finished. Not many who care about their work

Pros

Good benefits, generous vacation and sick time, good retirement benefits. During an economic recession, an educational institution is a good place to be as layoffs are kept to a minimum.

Cons

Management is completely incompetent. I have never seen so many do so little yet position themselves to look so well in the eyes of their superiors. Oh, and if you work here, sharpen your butt-kissing skills, because the only way to get advancement is to make very nice with the people on top. If you do advance, prepare to spend the remainder of your professional life in debilitating anxiety over whether your dean approves of the job you're doing.
