Pros

For the most part, team members are pretty cool to work with at least in Ann Arbor There are tv's in the SOC to turn on netflix or other apps to binge watch movies, anime or whatever Nearby restaurants Shifts vary and open up if you're interested in switching (11pm-7am, 3pm-2am, 7am-6pm) Different kinds of snacks Work with team members in different regions and work with cool technologies The manager is super cool she is easy to talk to Surprisingly they offer different options to choose from for benefits 2nd or 3rd shift are the best shifts to work The alerts and alarms should keep you alert throughout the day Even if youve worked in a non-IT tech support role you can catch on to this job pretty easily

Cons

Unstructured work environment At times team members can be non-team players especially in the beginning during training There are mice in the building that often help themselves to the snacks Some of the clients may want to run a background or credit check on you Depending on who you are as a person and how sensitive you are other team members' conversations may or may not offend you - there is a lot of cursing and inappropriate topics that HR would not approve of, just don't be that person that tattletales. If inappropriate conversations bother you this is not the place for you. If you are a person strong in your faith like Christianity, this will be your time to let your faith shine and showcase it in the workplace if led to do so. The training in the position could be a lot better It is easy to get put on a final written or fired here for making a mistake or error mgt doesn't approve of no matter if you've been with the company for 5 days, 5 months or 5 years One of the biggest cons is if you arent a Soc 2 or in another higher position than you cannot work from home. There are many team members who are allowed to work from home but a Soc analyst cannot, Since Corona started quite a few employees unfortunately caught the virus you have to use an ipod to unlock company doors, there is no bathroom directly in your work area, you often have to get up and keep leaving out the same front door to get to the restroom which is annoying you have to use an iPod throughout the day to get in the doors and for VPN access for the different tools.

Pros

Will take anyone regardless of experience, so great for those wanting to get started in the industry. And a lot of the people are cool.

Cons

Terrible Pay - because they'll take in anyone Terrible Training - all self taught, some of what they have is contradicting Terrible Management - all out for themselves Hint at one thing but then another happens; example is pay raises - those are non-existent

Pros

The only pros are how laid back it is, not a up tight corporate feel and that you get some very limited hands on with SIEMS.

Cons

SO many. Most of the management that make any calls are disconnected with the analysts and almost make it seem like they are out to actively make your job dumber. The pay is brutally low.. like fast food work low and once you make it out of a SOC one roll you're pay remains low and is capped low so you wont get a raise after your promotion and once promoted you are on call 24/7 for the clients and the analysts to call for any questions or coverage issues. Something needed to do your job is broken at all times, you will daily need to deal with some part of your workflow not working due to the above reasons, constant patching and updated that crashes other systems. weeks of development for a fix that turns into a workaround that just becomes the normal. Little to no training, the turn around on trainers is quick most people will take the roll just to get a break from monitoring. New siems will be used with the only training provided is a sales development team video which will not help you in how to conduct your investigations or create your cases. Work load at times can be unmanageable due to the turn over you will regularly be short handed in your monitoring group. People will quit or be fired and no replacement will happen for weeks or months leaving one or two analysts to cover way to many clients at a time. You will get a break from time to time when new clients do walk throughs management will beef up the SOC by getting people to stay late or come in early to make it look like we have more analyst than we really do monitoring their environments.
