Pros

The leadership at OPUBCO really cares about the employees. The last decade or so for the newspaper industry has been very difficult but they are doing the best they can fighting against negative headwinds.

Cons

Tumultuous industry means they have gone through a few rounds of layoffs.

Pros

I'm almost certain that the reason I had a good experience here is directly related to my former boss. Under her wing, I was given every opportunity to grow my skills, pursue different areas of interest, come up with my own ideas, build my portfolio, and grow my career. I was able to work on so many cool things and have a direct affect on major marketing/advertising decisions. I also had the opportunity to work with some amazing designers and learned a lot from them.

Cons

Leaders of the company are very old-fashioned. In an age where things are constantly progressing and new ideas evolve every day, it is crucial to keep up and think of new ways to break the mold. I believe our team developed a lot of great ideas that were either silenced or shelved in favor of more traditional approaches. This really did not help our company's situation, especially in an industry that is already suffering due to lack of progress and inability to stay current/relevant. We spent a lot of time working on various projects that we ended up not moving forward with because of leadership's indecision and inability to listen to anyone's opinions but their own.
