Pros

My favorite things about working at OU Medical Center were the opportunities to learn, the coworkers who turned into lifelong friends and the many ways OU Med worked to stand out as leaders in the health and science field. I worked as a registered nurse there from 2007-2020 and truly that place felt like a home to me. As crazy hard and challenging as it was, I believe I made a difference in peoples' lives and so many of the people I worked with became a part of my extended family. I worked under several different management teams who all did an amazing job, especially the float pool management. They had excellent communication, were very understanding, helpful and fair. I always had the equipment necessary to do my job (even if I had to borrow from another unit lol) and *most* of the doctors are great to work with.

Cons

I was always embarrassed and annoyed when I got sent to the ER for med/surg holds because invariably I would be caring for 5 patients on gurneys in the hallway. I feel like this is not only bad for patient confidentiality and patient safety, but it's just plain shameful and awkward for everyone involved. I feel that certain departments or floors get favored for staffing over others because of pushy management. The patient/nurse/support staff ratio matrix should be followed regardless of whether or not a unit director has some standing agreement with the staffing office to always have a certain number of RN's & CNA's no matter what.
