Pros

Technically challenging with a few high-profile external partners (Google, AI), designing and implementing their own solutions rather than simply outsourcing. Feels like we're working with cutting edge technology. Encouraged to collaborate with colleagues and other departments, with suggestions listened to and receiving appropriate responses. They also seem adaptable to work/life balances, with numerous employees with young families.

Cons

With Ocado Technology growing to accommodate future outsourcing of their business solutions, it seems to have frequent restructures and some growing pains. Overall this makes it feel more dynamic and trying to meet new demands, rather than creating obstructions. Some areas or roles need a little more structure and guidance on career progression (e.g. Project Management).

Thanks for the feedback. Good to see that you like both the work and the culture; we work hard to make sure we're getting that balance right. Regarding your comment on career progression, there is an ongoing project to make sure we're constantly improving and fine-tuning how this works. If you have any specific ideas or concerns to share, it would be great if you could get in touch with the Careers Working Group.

Pros

Being able to work alongside enthusiastic, helpful, friendly, smart researchers and software engineers from a wide variety of academic backgrounds, who contribute a wide range of strengths and insights to the problems we're working on together. Having the opportunity to work on challenging robotics research problems and having opportunities to develop my skills and knowledge in this area, e.g. through attending conferences and meeting/collaborating with academics. Having a great deal of autonomy in terms of working out how to solve the various problems I'm given and deciding how to implement the solutions. The management style is very hands-off, which suits me very well.

Cons

It's in Hatfield, which may be inconvenient for people who crave the culture and liveliness of London.

Pros

Amazing people and collaboration. Make your opinions feel like they matter and can aid in driving the business forward. Not afraid to innovate within a valid reasoning. Open to Experimentation.

Cons

Was difficult to collaborate at times within the different international offices that we have.
