Pros

The best part about working at Ocean Spray is that it makes every other employment experience you've ever had look like the most efficient, progressive, high-performing organization.

Cons

The main problem with Ocean Spray is with inept leadership who has brought in their laughably under-qualified former colleagues, who are themselves amateur micromanagers, to lead major parts of the organization. Smart employees, which there are many, are prevented from doing a good job, because they are instead expected to do whatever management says, even if this comes at the opposition to empirical data or consumer research. Because of this, culture is horrible - at best non-existent and, at worst, toxic - with employee empowerment and morale incredibly low. Expect to play the game of "who's going to leave next?" on a daily basis.

Toxic environment, company headed in the wrong direction

Pros

- Though many of the good ones have unfortunately been let go, there are still a number of amazing and passionate people working here that are a pleasure to work with and still have hope for the company to return to the place we formerly loved working. - Working for a grower-owned cooperative is very meaningful and fulfilling.

Cons

Over the past year, new management has driven this company into the ground. People with 20+ years of history who poured their heart and soul into the company have been let go for no reason. There have been mass layoffs and outsourcing to cut costs with no sound explanation or second thought of how this impacts the people and culture of the organization. The new CEO is misogynistic and has removed the heart and soul of the company, which was what previously kept people there for such a long time and what we loved so much about the brand. It used to feel like we were all one big family and now there is a feeling of dread as soon as you walk in the door. The opinions of anyone below senior leadership are not considered or care about and you are looked down upon. Beware the positive reviews on this site, even the most recent ones. Employees who are jaded or have recently been rewarded with promotions or recognized with awards are asked to post them to falsely inflate the company rating. Do your research before joining this organization.

Thanks for your review. We would love the opportunity to really listen to you and talk in person. We appreciate your guidance regarding communication and action, and we hope you bring your thoughts and suggestions to our next Let’s Talk session. We recognize that change is challenging, but we are starting to see positive results both for the business and for our colleagues. We’re growing more nimble, innovative, and health-oriented. We’d be happy to discuss these results with you in person. Our Ocean Spray colleagues and our farmer families are the heart of our cooperative, and we are proud to be on a mission to connect our farms to families for a better life.

Pros

Owned by family farmers, 70 strong

Cons

Is the Board aware of what is going on with the company? About half of the Marketing and Innovation team are no longer with the company. Good people are leaving because they no longer believe in the company. The Leadership team is living in a fog pretending everything is ok. IT IS NOT. Please Ocean Spray Board, take some action. This place is falling apart.

Thank you, as you have raised one of the wonderfully unique aspects of working for a cooperative: doing what we do every day for 700 family-farmers. The board is also made up of those farmer-owners, and they care passionately about, and have faith in, the success of this coop, the long-term strategy and leadership, and our new approach to how we are organized and primed for a new era at Ocean Spray.
