Pros

OSJL is working tirelessly to become an Employer of Choice. This means having incentives you will not find anywhere else! There are discounts for movie tickets, theme parks, mobile carriers, and dining for the three restaurants owned by Job Lot and more. In the corporate office we have Free Lunch Friday, Associate of the Month (which comes with great rewards) and much more! It is also great to be apart of a company that gives back so much to the community. Although this business is growing everyday, there is still a small business, family-owned feel. The owners are at the office before hours until after hours and are pleasant, friendly, and care about their associates. I am excited to see what more is to come for the company and its associates.

Cons

As the company grows, it requires more associates to assist reach goals that may be unattainable without the proper help.

Pros

Great values and employee emphasis for deserving candidates. My management team has been great at giving me the resources to advance. (Went from F3 to department head and hopefully further) I love working there, everyday is new and challenging, albeit changing merchandise for upcoming holidays, to helping customers with the T.R.E.A.T program that has lead me to receive the customer service of the quarter for Jerry Ballard's district and the positive reinforcement has been a motivation tool to work for the culture of the company and develop new associates to achieve the mission of the company.

Cons

The 32 point system can allow for underdeveloped, nonessential and unwilling to take to the culture a negative impact that can affect the productivity of other employees. Not everyone loves their job (due to the relatively small increments in pay) or lack of the need to work. Many young, disposable employees that come and go. Can waste up to three days training a new hire to just quit because 5am is too early to come in to work.

Pros

Very few, but they do hire older workers because the young ones can't show up to work enough to survive the points....and well... older workers mostly just shut their mouths and do what they're told.

Cons

If you are from outside "the club" you are really OUT...really...really...OUT-lol They coerce every loser who's been hanging around taking up space about their opinion of you after just a few days and completely disempower(disrespect) the freshness and solutions to their problems that you bring by insisting on "their" way... even if "their' way hasn't worked for years in any given problematic location. They'll give you the worst store they have that has been hopelessly broken by the good old folks and expect you to fix it in a week with the same crew of losers using the same losing tactics that broke it to begin with. They simply don't understand that a truly broken business sometimes needs a good hardnosed driver to get things rolling...and the old crew just might have to get it in gear or be replaced...and if some of the former losing crew gets their little toesees stepped on just a little bit....well then I'm sorry but that's how business works...something that truly great businesses get. There are many formally decently successful business no longer around who played it too safe and took the politically correct way out...completely chicken to have a little passion for goodness sakes and to think different once in a while...for crying out loud. Don't consider a company as close minded as this one if you actually might have a suggestion or new thought or two...you will be highly frustrated. As for me I see quickly that I won't be allowed to do what needs to be done to upgrade where needed and intend to find a new company that will appreciate and value what I can do...quickly.
