Pros

Discount, friendly co workers, diversity

Cons

Well I can say I enjoyed my time at ocean state. Seems now I am going to have to leave due to the hour change of coming into work. Before employees were able to come to work between 6am and 9am before the store opened but now it’s only 10 minutes. I’ve been with the company well over 3 years and never had an issue. The other day I saw a manager get harassed by customers waiting for the store to be open as the manager was walking to the door with associates to go in. It’s kind of scary honestly and really no other companies I’ve seen do that. I really appreciate everything they do but I can’t even accommodate with the new hours as well.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. As a retail company, we try to balance our needs of associates, customers, and our business. These are challenging times and our data showed why we needed to make changes to staffing and store hours.

Pros

Abee to work with local charities. Work is close to home and the hours were recently reduced.

Cons

The cons are too many to list in one review. First and foremost is the complete lack of leadership at the district regional, and corporate levels. The CEO/Owner comes in, pouts like a child when something isn;t to his liking, then you get the follow up visits because he complains to anyone that will listen. Maybe if the RD or DTL were interested, they would be visiting and getting the real story before the CEO visits. He and his buyers bury the stores in freight, while refusing to pull back outdated seasonal merchandise. The freight makes the stores unsafe and we are all expected to smile, say everything is great, and post fake reviews on Glassdoor. The RD is more interested in gossiping with her pals in every store than providing any substance to her visits and the DTL is even less competent.

Pros

The brutal oppression provides a great sense of shared misery which cultivates a certain comradery among coworkers. People from various backgrounds were brought together by the systematic oppression.

Cons

The company relies on being understaffed to cut costs and to maximize the effort of each employee, counting on them to pick up the slack which they tend to do simply because to do so is the only way to get through the day. Overworked, underpaid, the employees go above and beyond simply to keep their heads above water, with no recognition and little compensation.
