Pros

- Since COVID, marketing department has instituted a flexible work environment with options to work from home, the office, or hybrid. - Leaders and peers in marcomm department are caring and nice, and this stems from the current female marketing VP who is brilliant and compassionate - Very stable job; if you’re willing to stay for a long time (10 years), you will eventually be rewarded with a decent wage and solid vacation time

Cons

- Low pay for marketing positions; make sure you negotiate hard for a good entry salary as raises come slowly - Very hierarchical and political; some people thrive in work environments like this, so make sure that’s you - Though Ochsner employs 70% women, c-suite is 100% white male and policies reflect this— paid maternity leave is substandard (2 weeks at 50% pay), and during a 2021 meeting with a women’s empowerment group, CEO stated there are no plans to expand this - While work hours are typical 8-5, work volume is high; to enjoy working at Ochsner, you must love project management and being a “busy-bee” no matter what your role - Pockets of toxic culture are more prevalent than I expected; have seen multiple leaders dodging personal responsibility and throwing others under the bus for personal gain; this was disappointing and ultimately a big reason why I left (to be clear, this was when servicing departments outside of marketing)
