Pros
Good benefits and vacation package; had to negotiate salary but did arrive at a good number--initial offer was very low. The company talks a good talk when it comes to acceptance, tolerance, diversity, lack of prejudice, and concern about physician wellbeing and burnout, but does not consistently deliver on their goals.
Cons
I never considered leaving medicine completely until I worked for this company. I think for physicians who are happy to show up, do as they're told, get by with limited resources (particularly in the way of support staff), and have little to no autonomy in exchange for a steady paycheck and benefits, Ochsner works. For those who are less motivated by money, are free-thinking, want more control over their practice and autonomy in how it is run, or expect the best for themselves and their patients, this employer is not a good fit.
