Pros

People are generally nice and most people are smart. We have a brand new shiny office. There are lots of company parties and social events to enjoy time and eat with coworkers.

Cons

Everything is slow and hierarchal at the company tech-wise. In engineering, you hardly have any say in anything. Product leadership, although many people, is distant, confused and unapproachable. Engineering leadership is almost none. They tell us to be positive but don’t solve anything or help. They like to go for long walks for meetings rather than help at a desk. Other reviews stating the same are very accurate in this point. Executives live in their own world where they only talk to each other, go to offsites and generally delegate tasks to others without input. Management is distant to tech leaders and always telling what to do and find out later that they needed to think about it more. Even managers and directors around the company seem to just do whatever executives say without questioning anything. The company is not transparent like they try to say- everything is kept secret. In tech, we have almost no idea of what is going on- maybe they don’t know too or just afraid. The company fires smart people if they don’t agree with you, or people just leave. CX had layoffs so they can outsource their jobs. Recently engineers, managers and directors in product are leaving too for better jobs. Morale is low in tech and across the company as we overhear things. The outlook here doesn’t seem good for some time now.

Pros

If you want to work in a startup environment that is fast paced and where you work with some of the best and most passionate engineers, solve hard problems (both engineering and business), learn a lot and have fun at the same time, then OfferUp is the place to be. There is transparency all the way from the CEO to VP of Engineering down to the individual contributor. Important decisions are made after getting the opinions of appropriate folks and there is no shroud around the decision making process. You are encouraged to speak up and give your opinions and to not accept status quo. You also get to work with really smart and hard working folks. There are ex-employees from Microsoft, Twitter, Amazon, Google and other large companies and this creates a great melting pot where everyone can learn. Co-workers are extremely helpful and go out of the way to help you out and unblock you. There are no artificial barriers around code and everyone has the freedom to make changes in any part of the code base. There is a lot of emphasis given to improving developer productivity and there are some very smart folks who are working to improve this. !! To summarize a great place to work in !!

Cons

1. Over crowding though this should become better as we move to the new building
