Pay is capped incredibly low. Not that a minimum wage employee would hit the cap within a decade. The cap for a regular sales associate is 12.15. San Francisco min wage is going to be 12.75 in two months. At least the cap will be obsolete in San Francisco. This presents another problem. "Managers" will make the same as regular associates by 2018. And no, the company will not give you a raise to compensate.
Most store managers are probably high school drop outs. District managers seem the exact same way. Incompetence is endemic within this company. They are focused on things that do not matter. This company is a failure. I thought Office Max was a bad company but Office Depot proved me wrong on so many levels. No one knows what is going on in corporate. Help desk is completely useless now. It is infuriating to try to get issues resolved. Many issues have not been resolved simply because these Office Depot employees on the corporate side are completely clueless. Why even have a help desk if they can't resolve any issues?
Dealing with crazy people on a daily basis. I don't know if it is just this company or if it is retail in general. We meet customers that blow up at random. Most of the time it is about company policies that we have no control over. This job requires a strong constitution because it will tear you down.
Office Depot treats its employees as if they were sub-human.
Why do people even consider working these minimum jobs anymore is beyond me. In this day and age there are many other opportunities i.e. Uber that allows a person to make much more money v.s. (I want to say retail but I think it might just be this company that treats its employees this poorly) Office Depot, and with much less stress.
Many people had their wages cut. Not that they were making much to begin with.
