Pros

Coworkers-I met some great people and learned quite a bit about public service and retirement systems. A few good Managers and Supervisors, but not enough to make it an acceptable place to work.

Cons

Paternalistic organization (do not talk in the elevator). New hires that are brought into the organization often lack the appropriate skill sets that are required. Do not be fooled by the largeness of the organization or assets because it is not a great place to work. Multiple lawsuits, disgruntled staff-I cannot believe the Ohio Attorney General has not been more proactive investigating this organizations smoke and mirrors. The Member Services Department is the gates of hell, very inept and dishonest management. You are warned!! No room for advancement if you are educated or have experience-you become a threat to upper "management".

Pros

I got to help people that would call in with questions about their plan, their options, and how to begin the process for receiving their benefits.

Cons

Management is HORRIBLE! Especially if they feel intimidated by your skill level. If they are unable to get you to resign by their bullying or taunting of ones physical disability, they will resort to the point that they will completely fabricate a situation and set of events that would ultimately cost someone their job. Knowing this was all fabricated-along with management believing that they are above the process of allowing an employee to speak to HR about a situation-They said the employee could not- decision was made. It is simply if you are not part of their "click" they will lie- cheat- and falsely create information to get rid of you.

Pros

Really can't think of anything. Average pay, average benefits, average everything. They say they have a gym on site, but there are other state agencies within 2 blocks that offer cheaper access and even have fresh towel service.

Cons

Micro managers thrive in this place, some even go to the extent of keeping track of how many bathroom breaks employees take, and write people up for the silliest of all reasons. It is no wonder that they have not been investigated or sued yet. Diversity is hardly a priority for them, in IT and in Investments there are very, very few opportunities for growth. Favoritism is so rampant that even when they open a new job to fill a position by doing a "national search", they end up promoting someone from inside the company whose qualifications and experience are questionable. If you question authority, you will be on the receiving end. You hit the ceiling within 1-3 years and by that time you either get used to the routine or leave. I would not recommend this place to anyone, whether it is a new college graduate, a mid-level manager, or a Sr. employee.
