Pros

- Great product and Gartner Leader for Identity and Access Management - On track for IPO - Strong C-level executive team - VC backed by Andreesseen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital - Unlimited PTO (double edge sword)

Cons

- Unpleasant office space for sales team in SF - not natural sunlight and stark walls - supposed to move by end of year to a new space. Impacts recruiting and productivity - Politics of a larger public company - Adding middle layer of management creates bureaucracy and unneeded layers. 5 layers between the sales rep and CEO for a 500 person company - Limited people making number in emerging and corporate sales - territories skewed to favor a few that have major metropolitan cities - NYC or Bay Area - Talent and gender gap in Sales and very young sales tenure - Unclear promotional and career track - Talent gap in sales - promoting people into closing sales roles with less than 1 year experience

Pros

might open doors for next opportunities

Cons

okta is not a great place to be. Rarely will you come close to your OTE. While the plan seems lucrative, there are far, FAR too many sales reps for the little opportunity there is. How you do is heavily weighted on how hot your territory is, but of course that’s not acknowledged. Those people are made out to be sales gurus and you’re made to feel like a failure . the accounts they give you are largely not viable (not in business/fake) and PIPs are looming for many. Managers are frazzled and micromanage endlessly because they are getting the same from above. There’s a very weird and cut throat energy to this place that makes it difficult to feel comfortable. Many people are looking to leave. Everyone is on edge because they know the sales team is about to burst from how bloated it is.

Pros

Not sure there are many left, but amidst all the budget cuts there are still some great people pushing to nurture a people-first culture.

Cons

The Auth0 acquisition was rough. Teams work in silos, processes undocumented, and many inefficiencies and reckless spending that took months to clean up. Although Okta has grown in size, it is far more immature than many small size companies I've worked for. People do not truly come first here, investors and customers do. The layoffs are a sign of this and have hurt many teams. I have to wonder if this is why the Chief People Officer left.
