Pros
In some departments schedules are flexible, and management is generally liberal in approving leave. If you want to take on a more active roll in the university there are many opportunities to get involved. Also, there is a variety of training in a multitude of subjects for personal and professional advancement. Tuition assistance is also available to help you further your education.
Cons
Communication across departments is not very cohesive. This can make it difficult to solve student problems that require cohesive effort from multiple parties. Also, since ODU is a state employer, there is a long process to fire people who are not doing their job. Due to this, many people are not pushed to do their work and that leaves more work on the people who actually work.
