Pros

Decent pay, amazing benefits, immediate health insurance coverage on day 1 of employment, 4 weeks PTO immediately @ hire

Cons

Gap as a whole is performing poorly as a retail company and is definitely felt throughout the company. The worst is yet to come, I predict. Working at Old Navy in management will cause you to have no work/life balance. Even though I was hourly, I often worked off the clock and at home to get the tasks done. Technology is a joke and POS is so slow and old with constant glitches. There's been a glitch in the system for months so you can't look up customers online merchandise purchases with their credit/debit card causing customer issues constantly. Corporate customer service is a joke and often clueless. Standards are impossible to keep with amount of payroll given. Constant floor moves almost daily and having to take merchandising plans from prototype stores and making them work into an older ON store was a constant struggle. Throughout the week, upper field is ready to jump on you, for having a late sales read on SLACK or not responding back instantly. Management at my store was just one clique and I was the unpopular kid back in high school again that wasn't one of the "cool" kids. Constant job openings in management...there is a reason why! Think first before taking a position here. After restructuring of store management teams, this senior leader position has NO input into the schedule or hiring functions. This is not like a majority of retail stores. This made me feel like I was a glorified department manager instead of a senior leader in the store consistently.

Pros

Discount is good but nothing worth bragging about. Working with my team and developing talent is something I enjoy as well.

Cons

Since the inception of "Market Leaders" upper level field management has been completely uninvolved in their stores. They have NO idea what is happening and when they visit it is solely business and merchandising driven and there is NO focus on people. At ON if you want to be a person filling a position and not an individual running THEIR business you will fit right in because that is all they see you as, we do NOT have names. They put no value on their Managers and SCARE them into being afraid to make decisions for fear we will be fired. Someone was recently fired for leaving their keys unattended in a LOCKED office that only manager's have a key to, seriously..FIRED!! The whole point of Market Leaders was to un-layer the corporate ladder and make senior level leaders more accessible to the stores. Unfortunately, what the creation of Market Leaders really did for the business was lay off all the AWESOME District Managers and promote all the lower paid, unexperienced District Managers to save money. The company is being led by uneducated, inexperienced, University of Phoenix graduates that have the talent of a tea spoon and the managerial skills of a 8 year old baseball team captain.

Pros

-Employee discount (The 50% off at Gap and Banana is awesome) -Tons of hours during Christmas -Easy job to get if it's your first job or you're in high school -Easy to request days off -Very flexible with your schedule due to the INSANE amount of employees -When something cute goes on clearance you can grab it before the customers -Easy to make friends with other employees -Starting salary above minimum wage

Cons

-Extreme variability in weekly hours (one wee 0-4 hours, the next week 30 hours) -Managers play favorites -Managers are gossipy and catty -Forget about ever being on register (the easiest position) if you don't get an obscene amount of Old Navy Cards -High school drama due to the amount of employees who are in high school -Employees making everyone elses lives harder (Dumping clothes when they don't know where they go, hiding messes behind stacks of shirts) -The ridiculous sales that bring in so many people...forget about ever trying to get the store remotely presentable -The fact that management expects the store to look pristine. Sorry I can't keep up with the rude customers ruining the neat piles of shirts I just made. Sometimes I felt like I folded the same table for my entire shift. -Working in the fitting room -Treatment by management. For example, I got called in at 6 am the day after Christmas because we were going to be "busy". When I got there I was told to clean the bathrooms even though we had a janitor on staff. -Management acts as though their employees are incompetent -Ridiculously rude customers who have no problem screaming at you -Customers constantly misread signs so you have to take time out to check the sign (even though you already know the item isn't on sale) only to find the item isn't on sale and to have the customer yell at you about the "false advertising" -Screaming children, bratty children, parents who refuse to control their children and think you also function as a babysitter
