Pros

Promotions are easy because attrition is high. Engineers leave left and right and it has become quite a joke. I advise anyone looking at joining Olin to take advantage of the rapid promotions and then cash in on it by jumping to another company at about the 3-year mark.

Cons

Company benefits are treated as though they are flexible. Management is hopelessly clueless and arrogant. Some managers (ones that came from Dow, mostly) will resort to using bully tactics to get what they want, even if what they want is technically illegal.

Pros

Money is good once you are fully certified. Many of the new trainees in Plaquemine are just trying to get experience to jump to another plant. Around 500 hours of overtime easy per year.

Cons

At the chlorine plant in Plaquemine it takes around 6-7 years to become fully certified. They will tell you it can be done in 5 because three operators have ever done it. The training is beyond intense. They have definitely made strides with it but it is still so much. As of the new year Olin has just cut their 401k match or contribution. It used to be you put in 7 they put in 5. Now its nothing. You can still put in, but they do not match. They are self insured so health insurance keeps going up year over year. Bonuses are sub par with the chemical industry especially with any of the surrounding plants. Entire HR department is a mess. No help there haha The plant leaders have to pull teeth to get any sort of response from them and its always just a deflection. Usually.

Pros

Olin really paid well and often gave safety cash rewards.

Cons

I don't know where to start, Vacation sucks. The Supervisor hardly ever did their job, left it up to the employees to settle matters that should have been handled by management. It was stressful because some co-workers didn't take the safety issues seriously. Supervisors had different rules for different employees. It was a revolving door so you was constantly training people.
