Pros

1. The people - your co-workers are really the best part about OW. Everyone is interesting and talented, and that makes the long hours worthwhile. 2. You learn a lot. Whether you want to jump around between industries or dive into one area of interest, you are fully immersed and you work on a lot of skills. 3. Ability to progress in the company - OW is a meritocratic environment. You can progress to whatever level you are performing at. Additionally, OW does not have an MBA hiring track, and thus invests more time and effort on their undergraduate hires.

Cons

1. Lifestyle - you travel a lot, and you work late hours. This isn't really different among top management consulting companies, but be aware of it going in. 2. Element of chance in staffing - a lot of your experience depends on what cases you get onto. And while you can express preferences for staffing, your cases can depend a lot on the chance of timing (when you become free, when other cases are starting). Also, one bad case with a manager that you really don't get along with can be both a miserable experience and set you back significantly in career progression.

Pros

Truly meritocratic: managers will promote anyone who deserves it, regardless of age or tenure. Easy to get international assignments. The organization is willing to take risks and act differently from other large consulting organizations (for example, by hiring less MBA's and forcing earlier specialization). Competitive pay.

Cons

Trigger-happy management in regard to layoffs. No serious checks & balances regarding work/life balance. "Industry generalist" job titles seem generalist in name only for many who are effectively forced to specialize in an industry from day one.

Pros

- Major travel to large financial and corporate centers

Cons

- Questionable contracts with clients (most contracts have a highly superfluous end-objectives and seem to be mostly the result of "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" relationships with middle-managers at clients. It is very difficult to demonstrate that they generate any value added to the end clients - Involved in most of the banks and insurance companies that collapsed in the financial crisis, yet refuse to acknowledge their significant responsibility for the disaster. It is rather shocking that they are getting any business since to be honest (e.g. they had a significant role at AIG, Fannie and Freddie, to name a few) - Too many of their consultants are essentially frustrated wannabe-high-financiers, who are eternally attempting to extract high-finance-type salaries in an industry where those pay levels cannot legitimately be supported (unless you are taking advantage of a client through questionable mandates or relationships). This leads to a very unwelcoming and toxic working environment
