Pros

OW is a professionally run organization that offers the opportunity to showcase skills and really grow in your role. The workplace varies based on the 5 subsidiaries that make up OW, but for the most part, it's what you would expect from a NY-based consultancy. Very flexible work arrangements, long hours, and overall, very intelligent, dedicated, and diligent people, from the bottom to the top of the organization.

Cons

Working at a consultancy, you are a slave to the ups and downs of the economy. Essentially a luxury more than a necessity, you have to worry about the ebbs and flows of industry. During good economic times, the business and workplace is thriving and filled with energy. During a downturn, job losses and downsizing are a harsh reality.

Pros

- Great people: Fun to be with, slightly socially awkward, smart, work and play hard - Flat structure with little if no hierarchy (ever seen directors playing foosball with rookie consultants?) - Some exciting strategy and due-d projects (if you are lucky enough to get one) - Projects are nearly always in cities, some opportunities to working in exotic countries - Great for self starters who don't need too much guidance - Above average pay

Cons

- The bread and butter is in financial services consulting >> read basel II which is highly statistical and may not appeal to all - Lack of training - the one week training program is insufficient for real client interaction - Long days on the road with clients that expect you to know everything even though you may not - Firm is stingy with expenses (read economy class for <10 hour flight, no blackberries, cheaper hotels)

Pros

- Challenging and intellectually stimulating case work - Work with top flight talent from all over the world - International casework experience very common - Meritocratic career review and promotion system

Cons

- Quality of work/life balance varies greatly from one case / partner to the next; sometimes it's great, other times, you can't wait for the case to be over - Difficult (though not impossible) to join and progress midway through career progression model; most successful partners are either direct hires or promoted up through the ranks from analyst
