Pros

- Challenging and intellectually stimulating case work - Work with top flight talent from all over the world - International casework experience very common - Meritocratic career review and promotion system

Cons

- Quality of work/life balance varies greatly from one case / partner to the next; sometimes it's great, other times, you can't wait for the case to be over - Difficult (though not impossible) to join and progress midway through career progression model; most successful partners are either direct hires or promoted up through the ranks from analyst

Pros

Oliver Wyman provides great opportunities to work with a variety of people in a variety of locations and industries right after you join. Unlike most management consultancies, you get a lot of say in the industry you prefer, which makes it easier to pick your expertise, your managers, and your teammates.

Cons

Unfortunately, nobody has heard of us. I constantly find myself explaining who we are and I am often apologetic for it. The rebranding effort was a failure - the Mercer brand was stronger - and recent cutbacks in recruiting have further dropped our brand recognition.

Pros

Best place to start if you want to specialise in Financial Services immediately. You get the chance to work on sometimes very high-level engagements for corporates or public institutions in this sector. Great travel as assignments are staffed on a global level. Incredibly clever people with an output orientation - working long hours is not manadatory or even wanted.

Cons

Travel can have very tough impact on your social life - hard to maintain relationships when you are on cases far away from home. Projects can sometimes become very challenging from a political point of view (that is, within the teams).
