Not worth your time, which they won't pay you for anyway

Pros

- Some fun/nice coworkers, a mostly younger team. - Semi-flexible schedules, decent work-life balance. - 401(k) matching

Cons

- No career path options unless you are an admin and want to be an office manager. - VERY low pay. No (or minimal) raises upon promotion or review and no title changes. No process outside of yearly review to even ask for a raise/title change. - No internal training or mentorship. The company expects you to work like it's a scrappy start-up environment, but it's actually a large company (8 cities, 1000+ employees). Processes are not established or change without warning/consultation of all affected parties. - Horrible management. The managers are only out for themselves and are not trained to be managers. They don't recognize hard work and are quick to criticize, but cannot take feedback themselves. - Sexism (e.g., telling female employees to smile as part of their yearly review) - No bonuses of any kind, ever. - Confused company vision with no internal alignment. - Internal teams have different, and often conflicting, goals and will occasionally sabotage each other. - Lack of transparency. - Bad health insurance plans considering this is a health care company. - Managers make it hard for you to take PTO/penalize you when you do and your sick days come out of your PTO, so most of the employees just come to work sick. This is bad for both employee health and morale. - High turnover due to low pay, bad managers, etc.

Pros

Decent PTO package, good benefits. I genuinely enjoyed (most) of the people that I worked with, and I met a lot of smart and talented people who I think really were enthusiastic about the mission. When I worked for One Medical prior to COVID and the company going public, I really did feel supported and valued by leadership. This changed very rapidly.

Cons

Once COVID hit and the company went public, I feel like the façade really started to crumble in terms of what One Medial is really all about. Everything is delivered in a bright and shiny fashion, but behind that mask is leadership that is so out of touch with what their teams on the ground are dealing with that they might as well be on a different planet. There is a massive amount of miscommunication between leadership and lower management and I don't feel like our teams have the resources and support they need to do their jobs well. The quality of care for patients has decreased rapidly as admins scramble to find answers to their concerns. The company keeps opening more and more offices, but they can't even fill the appointments. There is minimal room for growth in the admin role, and the pay is laughable. They say the pay is competitive and that they review it annually, but I don't know where they are getting their data. I looked up the salaries of administrative assistants at local healthcare companies and they are all paying significantly more than One Medical. So despite what the person responding to these reviews says, it does not appear that One Medical's pay is comparable to competitors. The pay is enough to make rent, and certainly not sustainable considering most offices are located in cities with very high costs of living. In addition, the pay is not reasonable for the sheer volume of work that the admin team is expected to take on. Admins are the backbone of this company, but you rarely ever hear about them in company meetings. Leadership only seems to focus on the money they make from memberships and their stock prices. The CEO made nearly 200 million dollars in 2020. Meanwhile, we sent him multiple letters and petitions begging for higher pay as frontline workers during the pandemic. These requests were not accommodated and left the admin team feeling undervalued, burnt out, and depressed. We were essentially told to be grateful we had jobs. There is a lot of nepotism in the company. People are more likely to be promoted because they are "in" with leadership than their actual skill. With this in mind, the opportunities for growth are limited. Before, the Office Manager role was the main role admins could get promoted into. However, they recently created a senior manager role. Most new offices are instead getting a senior manager, rather than opening up the opportunity to an admin. They created the "shift lead" role to try and compensate for this, but the pay raise is incredibly small compared to the office manager role. Overall, you may be tempted to stay because you like your coworkers. I felt that way for a long time. But, you will soon realize that there is no future in the admin role, unless you want to wait around for years being underpaid until an opportunity crops up which may go to someone who is better friends with leadership.

Pros

You meet very decent and empathetic people here.

Cons

This company has it’s focus on the wrong thing right now and not only are employees affected by this, patients are too. Patients, as of late, are providing negative feedback due to the lack of support and staffing. Company has prioritized metrics and expanding the One Medical name out of greed over the mental health and morale of their employees. How can this be successfully achieved when offices are terribly understaffed and the employees that are existent are terribly unhappy, overworked and burnt out? Training for new cohorts is also horrendous! If the current issues cannot be resolved, how can there even be a future for this company?
