Hello, Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback and for your work at OpenClassrooms. I am really glad that you find your working environment stimulating and fulfilling, generally speaking. As the team has grown significantly in the last year, we have worked on formalizing our internal mobility process and designed an ambitious training policy allowing each employee to undertake one training action every year. Besides, professional interviews (“entretiens professionnels”) are being conducted for all employees who have been working at OpenClassrooms for over two years to assess their training needs and career development expectations. In 2020, more than 20% of positions were filled internally, demonstrating our wish to support the growth of our team members. However, I would agree with you that there is still work to do in terms of L&D strategy, and the design of career paths, which is the reason why we have opened several positions in the HR team to create a People Operations team fully dedicated to supporting our employees and making sure they thrive in their working environment. I would encourage you to talk about career development and training opportunities to HR and to your manager. We can help you with that. Although the hierarchical organization of the team is pyramidal, the watchwords of our management team are collaboration and feedback. Individual goals are discussed between manager and employee and set according to the team’s and company’s goals. Projects are managed following a RACI matrix that defines the responsibilities of all people involved, allowing them to be autonomous within their own scope of responsibility. However, it is true that in some teams, especially large ones, hierarchy is important to uniformize processes and the quality of service provided. We are open to your feedback, and discussions are always welcome to keep improving. Regarding your comment on politics, I strongly insist that this is not in accordance with our values of open communication and transparency; I can assure you that such behaviors are not encouraged by the management. We value hard work and dedication to the mission rather than cunningness and political calculations, which is the reason why we insist on the importance of 360° feedback and SMART goals in our performance reviews that are not compatible with such behaviours. If you feel you have been subjected to unfair treatment, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your manager or HR to discuss the issue. We are sincerely grateful for the great commitment of our team members towards our mission and ensuring the well-being, fulfillment and empowerment of our employees is the best way of giving back to them. Thank you very much for your work at OpenClassrooms. I hope you will keep learning and growing with us for a long time. Sincerely, Pierre Dubuc Co-founder & CEO pierre.dubuc@openclassrooms.com

Pros

The company offers unlimited vacation and they are serious about you taking it. You can end up with 5, 6, even 7 weeks of vacation, so long as your projects are done on time and well. As a result, when you need a break, you can take one, and when you need to work hard, you can. The students are inspiring and the whole company focuses on their positive experience.

Cons

Like many start-up cultures, the company uses a diverse range of platforms and products that don't always speak to each other. As a result, different teams may start the same project at the same time. They claim to have "market salaries" but in reality the pay is low.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to send your feedback and for your work at OpenClassrooms. We are very grateful for the amazing work the team does all year long and we know how hard everyone works. It is therefore essential for us to ensure they are able to take well-deserved breaks to unwind when they feel they need it. No one can deliver a good job when exhausted, this is a win-win situation. As to the two flaws you mention, I would like to give additional information. First, regarding salaries, I can assure you that we do conduct regular market research and align our salary grid to them. In addition, we are currently leading a harmonization policy based on positions and skills that will allow us to have a clear and transparent reference table. Based on the global grade on Salaries and Benefits on Glassdoor, I would think that most people would not agree with you on this. As I mentioned above, we are strong believers in a win-win relationship with our collaborators and providing them with fair wages, advantageous benefits (free “mutuelle”, free access to Gymlib, meal vouchers, professional development support) and good working conditions (remote-first policy) is of the utmost importance to us. Please let us know if you think that your salary does not align to market benchmarks as we’d be happy to analyze your situation and give more precise feedback, or readjust if relevant. As to the many different tools and platforms used internally, this is indeed a situation that we are currently working on. Some tools are inherited from earlier times when our processes were not as structured as they are now, as they involved fewer people. As the team has grown considerably over the last two years, we have had to change our processes, and we now need to scale our tools accordingly. We have already started since last year in Product Management, and progressively in the Global Operations department but this is a long process to ensure the migration and safety of our data and make sure the new tools will be reliable in the long term. Getting there! Thank you for your patience on this matter. Please don’t hesitate to speak to your manager or contact me directly if you have any suggestions on how we can improve further. Hi, I highly appreciate that you took the time to tell us about your experience with OpenClassrooms. Thank you for this. I’m very happy to see that during your time at OpenClassrooms you liked and felt embraced by our mission, making education accessible, and that you’ve also appreciated your colleagues. Transparency is actually a key characteristic of our culture, and I’m very happy to see that you agree with that. We are convinced that having a free flow of information within the company is great for engagement, empowerment and performance. Also, thank you for highlighting the perks we offer to our employees. We’re always trying to improve, so if you have any suggestion feel free to submit your idea during one of our internal surveys. I hear that the many newcomers may have diluted the mutual knowledge of the teams, but it was more than necessary to keep up with the growth of OpenClassrooms, share the workload, and prepare for the future. The lockdown period is also a challenge for our human resources teams who are onboarding many new employees remotely. However, rest assured: we are working on many projects to perpetuate and accelerate the integration of recruits into teams and strengthen the common spirit that drives OpenClassrooms employees! This starts of course with our weekly all-hands meetings, with random coffees, with frequent (virtual) social events, etc. Regarding the B2B strategy and vision, I would generally disagree with this broad statement. We have a clear and articulated B2B strategy that has been explained to the whole team at several occasions and that is available on our internal knowledge base. I am not sure what you are precisely referring to. Please contact me so I can answer your questions and/or point you in the right direction. Thank you again so much, Pierre Dubuc, CEO of OpenClassrooms. pierre.dubuc@openclassrooms.com
