Pros

OpenGov takes leadership seriously. I recently participated in an intensive two-day leadership development program at the San Francisco office, and it was one of the most impactful experiences of my career. The sessions went far beyond surface-level training. They explored how to lead with clarity, accountability, and intention; principles that are embedded in the company’s management philosophy. What stands out most is how deeply aligned the culture is with the company’s mission to power more effective and accountable government. Leadership at OpenGov isn’t just about hitting metrics; it’s about modeling the right behaviors, building trust, and driving results with purpose. The leadership principles are more than just slogans. They shape how people show up for their teams every day. More personally, OpenGov has been a major part of my life, right alongside my team in the Marine Corps. Working here has seen me get married, buy a home, and start family.

Cons

In the words of Agent K in Men In Black: "Oh yeah, it's worth it. If you're strong enough" The pace at OpenGov can be relentless. With growth comes change, and priorities can shift quickly. High performance is part of the culture. Some departments are still evolving their internal processes, which can create friction or inefficiencies when cross-functional work is required. As the company scales, ensuring consistency in execution across teams can be a challenge.

Pros

- Extreme opportunity for career development - Genuinely meaningful mission - Colleagues are generally great people/good at jobs - People really know their stuff about the industry... lots of subject matter expertise - Company makes long-term bets

Cons

- Definitely hard working culture. A fit for some but not all - Industry/market is just difficult. Selling to government is hard

Pros

Performance-based culture CEO is passionate and in the trenches, on a mission to build an enduring company that changes the way local government operates in the US Like many growth-stage companies, huge opportunities for personal growth (no shortage of problems to be solved) Differentiated in mission inherent in the product. Not building another digital marketing tool. Smart and diverse group of people. Increasingly so with 5 US hubs and large presence in Pune, India

Cons

The transition back to the office is hard. OpenGov is ripping the bandaid off. Govtech is not the sexiest industry. Growth is more hard fought compared to general enterprise SaaS. Will not see a hockey stick. Not a 3-5 year PE flip. Investing for the long term. Not a play to jump in and get a quick payout.
