Pros

Great medical benefits through Manulife and employee RRSP matching, Employee Stock Purchase Program (no options). When you are settled in a role, often you are left alone and are given plenty of space to work independently.

Cons

Once you are in a role, unless you are female and are well endowed, there is very limited room for advancement. Often you stuck in a role for years without any opportunity of advancement despite education, skill, and good performance. Stifling work environment where management does not solicit input or feedback from employees nor do they want to change operational processes to improve. Annual reviews have no bearing on annual increase which is always limited and far less than cost of living. Bonus structure does not reward direct contribution of individual and always leads to disappointment on quarterly payout. Through acquisitions management often changes and they know nothing about your work or the company as a whole so even as you have more seniority and experience than management they are the ones who make the big bucks and are promoted.

Pros

Good life-work balance. Good experience creation as projects are big and the customers are the largest institutions in the globe.

Cons

Feeling of freelancer (utilisation-based salary strategy): you have to find your own projects, create the offers, and present them to customers. Company will try all in their power to cut-cost i.e. ask you to reduce salary voluntarily. It's very obvious this is an IT-Holding and not an IT-Company. Focus on shareholder value, and not on products, customers, or employees. Always a feeling of insecurity about the future. The CEO likes to brag about how good we are, while at the same time telling we have to tight our belts and "take one for the company".
