A bright future

Pros

Great people. There has been some turnover at the ELT level, but it's been for the better. Optiv is becoming more mission-focused, and is working to clarify how we turn that mission into action. Benefits have improved in the 3 years I have been here, I think the "people focus" has become much stronger in the past 2 years. Senior leadership in my area of the business is phenomenal. I mean that. Id have a really hard time ever leaving that group of people. The company is also in a terrific spot within the industry, the country, and the world. With the backing of KKR, at this time, I believe the company is able to make the necessary investments to grow the business to where it can stand effectively without a PE firm in the future.

Cons

Health benefits are still high. They've made improvements in 2019 but certainly not where we need to be, yet. That's still part of the people-first focus and I expect it will only improve with time. We're still working on effective communication streams between company silos. It's getting better, but can still present a challenge. I wouldn't say it's particularly worse than any other company of this size/age, perhaps I just feel it more in my position. I have faith we'll get there.

Broken promises, counterproductive finance process, and mis management

Pros

Large company with some big clients

Cons

Optiv has a policy that takes away bonuses for all employees if they don't make their inflated EBITDA regardless of their personal performance. 4 quarters of missing EBITDA and a bonus heavy compensation package made me look elsewhere. Internally their finance structure is set up to drive internal competition that really hurts collaboration between groups. The Accuvant and Fishnet merger has left too many people in political positions, management needs to hire a business consultant to come in and re-org. No one from the outside has stayed more than a few years here - only the promise of fat payouts keep them for their contract..

Things are not headed in the right direction

Pros

Flexible schedule Work from home Pay decent

Cons

Leadership structure has recently changed and not for the better. Good leadership should accept blame and defer praise, but it is quite the opposite at Optiv. I recommend anyone that is looking to work here to watch your back. Benefits are horrible, only high deductible plans are available. I was paying around 4k/yr on health insurance and my deductible was 9k, and it gets worse every year. There are regular fireside chats/all hands calls and they feel so fake, and try way to hard to get people excited.

Thank you for your feedback. We regret your experience was not favorable. The communication mechanisms for employees in all hands meetings are delivered to share updates and relevant information on where we are as a company. A recent all hands call shared the action we are taking with our benefit programs in 2019 that will result in plans that cost considerably less for employees.
