Pros

Some of the people are really awesome. Some really strive for cross departmental collaboration Work from home CEO is very nice and approachable Creating confidence in the infosec space is a rewarding end goal Great leadership training class

Cons

Executive leadership is motivating out of fear and uncertainty. Militaristic style. The primary reason for this style comes from a lack of trust to the employees. Executive leadership is out of touch with their people When executive leadership functions from a position of fear to their subordinates it trickles down to all below. People are at fear for their jobs for who they may challenge or what they may say. This was not the case initially. I was there for over 3 years and this happened in the last year or so. New leadership criticising the work to get Optiv to where it is without first seeking to understand the history and context.

Pros

Great place to start your career, and you will eventually come to realize money isn't everything. Which is bizarre considering money is why we work.

Cons

There is a lot of deceit, forgetfulness, and accusations within management. Many times I had to pull up e-mail from 6-12 months prior that I had archived to cover my rear. Management asking why stuff wasn't done and having to provide documentation that they requested you to not do it so they could finalize the process. My working relationship with my director ended when his supervisor stated we had a meeting and I was bitter and angry. When I asked the VP about these accusations he denied it, my director also denied it. This left me pondering which supervisor's I could trust, I chose to keep my head down and just stay in my lane. The mentality of a one size security fits all firms is the current mindset, I will leave those technical enough to know the problem with this to make their own conclusions. Lastly, if you are not a yes man, then they will find someone who is, they are looking for individuals who support their goals regardless of the impact those goals have on employees, clients, or the process, I basically describe it as a swarm of bees who believe flying into a bug zapper is a good idea.

Pros

I met some very talented people from both sides (Fishnet and Accuvant). If you are new to information security then this is a good place to go to cut your teeth, just be mindful of when you have out grown Optiv and get out.

Cons

This place sells itself as a leader in information security but the fact is it is very void of talent. Most of the talented people from both sides of the merger have moved on to greener pastures and whats left is the remaining people trying to get out. Poor benefits, No options for a pre IPO company, and the exodus is very apparent. If you're experienced and value your reputation in the Security community then you should probably distance yourself from Optiv.
