Pros

Unlimited PTO (Called recharge). Ability to work from home. ( However. Since its 2016, what job in IT isn't some type of remote. Not much of a Pro anymore)

Cons

After reading all 80+ reviews I decided to take my time with this review. Most 4+ star reviews I noticed seemed like Management level or up. What I'm about to say it nothing new that a 1 or 2 star review hasn't already said. I'm also not here to bash the company. Just an honest review (Not from a director or manager to try and make it seem like Optiv is all sun shine and rainbows). Let's start off by saying the merge is done with. Anyone saying we are going through growing pains is a total lie now. With it being April Optiv is pretty much established (in house). What your seeing now is the "Lets see how well our new policy's are working". At first yes, the merge was horrible and new management was being hired faster then a fat kid eating cake. Management is management. You have some who are non technical that can make a crazy good PDF (ehhh...) and you have some management that are technical. (Not many at all). Some departments have to many managers and others lacking. Work life balance is pretty bad. I have been in IT for the last 10 years and Optiv is by far the worst. I assume this will change from department to department. Management has no clue at all how many hours I work in a week. I could work from 7am until 12am the next morning. No one would know. Last week Fee weeks I worked over 55 hours and not a single manager ask " Wow, you worked 55 hours. How come? Need any help or need me to assign someone to help you out?" Work delegation from management is also bad. Management will tell you xyz needs done but they already assigned you abc and 123 yesterday. Almost like no tracking on what is being assigned and who is working on it from management. Promoting of employees does happen but it seems not very often. I have been working at Optiv for more then a year and actually applied to a job or "expressed" my interest in a job opening. I was told that I was really needed on my current role and couldn't afford to be someone else. So, if your a top performer in your position, you are stuck. (Luckily I have more opportunities then Optiv, right!!! :)

Thanks for sharing your feedback. Last year, was a year of major transformations at Optiv, but we believe the positive outcomes for our customers have by far out-weighed any challenges we may have faced along the way. The upside of shaping and forming a unit within a larger organization is the opportunity to have a lot of influence on how the organization will move and grow. The downside is that it takes hard work and perseverance to making it happen. We’re all passionate about delivering a managed services offering that no other company has achieved. With new structure and processes in place, we are now positioned and on an upward trajectory for success and growth. We don’t claim that we are perfect, but our commitment to our employees is very strong and we are “All In” in working together across all teams towards being an exemplary employer of choice. That said, we welcome and accept all feedback, whether it is positive or negative, and we are troubled to hear you are struggling with work-life balance and have concerns about work delegation from the management team. First and foremost, feel free to reach out to me directly, I am willing to listen and help clear any frustrations you might have, and help smooth out any issues that prevent you from being successful in your role. Second, in an effort to show our commitment to the wellbeing of the team, we have now added a new team member, who will specifically serve as an Employee Experience advocate, to help us gain a better understanding of how members of the team are feeling and improve employee satisfaction holistically as a team. Or, if you’d rather submit additional feedback anonymously, there will be an opportunity to do so very soon, in an employee survey. Whatever your choice, I want to make sure you are aware of the different channels and opportunities to take this discussion further and create some action steps on both ends to make sure your concerns are addressed. Thanks, Jessvin Thomas, VP Managed Solutions.

Excellent Work-Life Balance

Pros

Optiv has offered me a work-life balance that I find hard to match. I have been with Optiv for over 5 years, and started as a legacy employee prior to the merger last year. In my prior life I went through mergers, re-orgs, cutbacks, growth spurts at both start ups and established companies and Optiv is no different. There is always and adjustment period associated with any change and realistically no one can be pleased all the time, but I do feel that the management and executives have been supportive of the employee base as a whole. Growth and change (for the better or worse) take time, and I think that Optiv is still small and agile enough to be able to change their policies and offerings to employees as they learn from what works and what doesn't. I have been happy with (aka agree with) about 90% of the changes that have been happening. In the past I have had both good and bad managers at Optiv. Just as I have worked with good and bad people in different departments and business units. However I think the company as a whole has been hiring smarter and being less tolerant of bad employees. In the my "legacy" days (pre-merger) I was exposed to and observed a lot of arrogant, disrespectful behaviors, most of which has disappeared. 75% of the reason why I stay is because of my peers (co-workers and managers) and 25% is because of the company (benefits, growth opportunities). Yes I can go to another company, make more money, have a "better title", have "more benefits" but I have an excellent work-life balance that I find hard to beat as well as a chance to watch a company in flux first hand. Personally I have found a lot of opportunities to grow myself professionally at Optiv because of all the changes. Lots of open

Cons

Multitude of changes can be challenging to those who are intolerant of any change. No clear professional growth strategy especially for consultants/technical staff. Weak training program for those new to InfoSec. A small "culture of arrogance" still exists...though it is quickly disappearing. New Hiring is too slow and probably hampered by perceived lack of professional growth opportunities.

Pros

One of the best things about Optiv is its culture and values. Optiv is focused on meeting the needs of the customer. The customer is at the heart of everything we do. Although Optiv is now the largest pure play security company in North America, it has still managed to retain an entrepreneurial spirit. Employees have tremendous latitude to grow the business, share ideas, and present innovative ideas to the executive leadership team. Be prepared, however, because if you have a great idea you will likely get the opportunity to take it and turn it into something great! The executive team has also invested heavily in the development of Optiv employees and looks to promote and grow talent. For those security geeks out there, Optiv is also a great place to work because you get exposure to fun and exciting technologies, are able to get hands on practice in different labs, and attend national security conferences and training. If you have drive and love security, Optiv is where you want to be!

Cons

With rapid growth comes some challenges. It is difficult at times to learn the organization, especially as leadership and management positions turn over or are added.
