Poor leadership decisions have ruined the company

Pros

I previously worked at Fishnet before they merged with Accuvant and Fishnet was an amazing place to work. The culture was great and there were many opportunities to advance your career. With the merger, most of that has changed. I lucked out and ended up in a great department but I was definitely the minority.

Cons

Unfortunately there are many: 1. Culture of Optiv - there isn't any at this point. It's just a regular corporation that has no investment in their employees and they only care about the bottom dollar. 2. Work-Life Balance - the feeling at Optiv is that you need to work at least 60 hours a week just to get the work done and then work some additional hours on top of that. Gone are the days of 40 hour work weeks 4. Removing top notch talent - if you are a legacy Fishnet employee, you feel as though there is a target on your back and leadership wants you out. So you either find a new job and quit or you get fired. 5. Benefits - this is a BIG one. Health insurance is AWFUL and the employees pay a TON for it, the 401K match isn't great, and the "unlimited" PTO is a joke because there's too much work to do to actually take time off 6. Compensation - There isn't any consistency between departments for pay. Some departments pay great and others are significantly under market value. And when you bring that up and make a business case for an increase in pay? Nothing happens. It is really sad to see such a great company fall to these levels. I really hope things can turn around because it would be awesome to see Optiv be great.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on working at Optiv. Our goal is to maintain a valued working environment for each of our employees, but we realize this can be a challenging task in times of change. 2015 was a year of change as we merged two companies together to form the largest pure play cyber security company in North America, Optiv. We are working hard to make sure our company is positioned for success—both near term and in the future. And while, just like with any major change there are challenges that need to be overcome, there have been more positives along the way, and we are optimistic and excited about the future of our company. Above all, we strive to be the best employer we can be. We are committed to creating an environment where employees take pride in what they do, love the work they do, and are proud of their impact on the world and we are sorry to hear that your experience of working at Optiv was negative. If you’d like to continue on this conversation, please feel free to reach out to hr@optiv.com. We wish you best of luck in all your future endeavors.

Decent, but flawed

Pros

If you get in the right team within the better performing practices, life can be good. Autonomy is high. There is some flexibility in work-life balance, if you're careful. It's a good place to build your resume for awhile.

Cons

Consultants are isolated and alienated from "corporate." And "corporate" is a good way to describe the culture post merger. Pre-merger, the culture was more fun, scrappy, and "get it done" than it is now. Consultant bonuses are big carrots, but they can easily suck you in and erode work-life balance. Training, bench time, and time promoting yourself (like conference talks) all count against your bonus, which is a big shame. Consultants are actually invented to stagnate. HR seems to change processes and policies weekly. Then, when you're not expecting it, they'll do things like reneg on the PTO buyout, or push annual pay raises out an entire quarter. If you're actually in a consulting practice, your competitors will view your team as "just a VAR" since most revenue comes from pushing security products.
