Pros

Optum provided a solid foundation for my coding career. As a first-time coder, I gained valuable experience working with Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and IOA programs. I was able to develop strong HCC coding skills across multiple payer types.

Cons

The company has a heavy micromanagement culture. Over the last two years, oversight and pressure to meet strict productivity metrics were very high. Support from leadership was minimal, which created a stressful work environment. While I appreciated the experience I gained, the constant pressure and lack of support made it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
