Pros

PTO, benefits, direct coworkers, and working from home.

Cons

High stress, low appreciation, almost no raise 1%, (24 cents) only paid 60% of my due bonus this year, they are laying off in droves, and the good people are leaving in masses. All this, and they continually increase profits by billions. In addition, huge delays in servicing patients, no accountability for the less consciousness employees, and again , no appreciation for those of us who strive to make Optum a good experience for the patients.

Pros

If you like constant restructuring, management changes, rebadging and trying to survive layoffs this is the place for you!

Cons

Every year or so my entire division changes drastically with a restructure and every time management changes the rules for the employees change. There is no culture in which the employee is valued at Optum. You are replaceable. Over multiple years annual reviews are useless; managers don’t give employees credit for their hard work and raises are unheard of. 1% is the norm. Bonuses have disappeared. The harder you work the more they expect from you. They charge you a ton for the worst health insurance for your family. Since they are the insurance company they make money off their employees families.

Pros

You can negotiate a decent starting salary. This is just a job - as clinicians, you are not treating patients - take advantage of that. Go in with the idea that you are getting paid to do a job - the job being asked of you and not really anything more or less... don't worry about making things better - put in your time at work and clock out.

Cons

Minimal raises. You are truly just a number. No transparency in decision making. No autonomy. Micromanagement. No ability to affect change/ improve. EXI scores mean nothing.
