Great pay, what a headache, awful culture.

Pros

The pay is pretty good.

Cons

Literally everything besides the pay. The silos, the bullsh#t, the bullying, the cliques. The benefits are awful; did you check out the out-of-pocket limits and deductibles on that offer? How about the co-pays, even when you are in-network. Don't forget, THEY DON'T HAVE TO SCREW YOU THIS WAY, THEY ARE THE INSURANCE COMPANY PROVIDING YOUR BENEFITS. They will work you to the bone. They will "ask" you to cover other people's roles to 'help out.' Being a manager is all kinds of a sh#tstorm. 1:1 meetings with each direct report each week. Tons of direct management, tons of micromanagement --- all mandated. This company breeds resentment and does it SO WELL. The only people I met here who were happy were the crazy cult-like 'lifers.'

Pros

People I work with are fantastic and we are a so close that we call ourselves a Wamily. The benefits are fairly decent too. My boss is great.

Cons

Certain departments that interface with providers should be prepared for 1% salary increase for your performance review regardless of your performance. Also undoubtedly, if you come in in the emerging market zone of the salary range for the grade level, fully anticipate that at some point, you will fall out of your salary range for your grade level and be left without recourse.

Pros

You will be enticed by a large yearly salary.

Cons

It's the insurance world. A billion dollar company. They are about making the company money. They want to limit the therapy and other mental health treatments. The cognitive dissonance of this job is that you are helping funds be used appropriately but in reality, they are watching their bottom line grow. There are people who need treatment but will have it denied. For example, if a clinician does not respond to outreaches to complete a clinical review, treatment will most times just be denied, based on new real reason except they didn't hear back from already overworked therapists. Many of the clinicians who work on the team that review outpatient therapy have not worked as actual therapists for many years. They are asked to evaluate the 'medical necessity' of treatment in a 10 minute conversation. You will also be asked to take on more and more responsibility. You will be evaluated by numbers each month--how long was your call, how long between your next call, all calls are recorded. If you enjoy micromanagement and being evaluated by metrics each month, this is a great job for you.
