Pros

My team and the larger group I worked for were a terrific group of very talented people. Employees had access to sophisticated technologies (subject to some budget restrictions). Company policies and administrative processes were well defined and highly automated. Oracle provided significant resources for tech support, mental and physical health, investigating career advancement, and human resources issues. The company took ethcs very seriously.

Cons

Job performance demands were exceedingly high, with tighter deadlines and more responsibilities per employee becoming the norm. Different groups within the company often did the same things in completely different ways, using different sets of tools. Development projects often skimped on the design phase and requirements changed frequently, resulting in wasted time fixing bugs and redesigning features. The members of another team who served as my primary working partners were good folks who had trouble allocating sufficient time or effort to our common tasks.

Pros

-Diversity of software products -A lot of resources at your disposal since it is a large company -Good name recognition for those who know the tech industry

Cons

-Red tape involved given size -All the mergers creates no community -CEO seems too busy spending his billions -Oracles sales reps are annoying (I am not a sales rep but work in an office with them) -Vacation is meager (although you get unlimited sick days ;-) -401(k) takes 4 years to fully vest

Pros

The benefits are amazing, incredibly comprehensive and inexpensive. From a product standpoint, the overall strategy is so comprehensive, between applications and infrastructure, that there is almost nothing you can't offer as a solution to customers. Every customer seems to have some amount of Oracle installed, so there is always some Oracle relationship, whether or not it's positive, it's something to build off.

Cons

Oracle's internal culture seems to remain one of competition, rather than cooperation. This means multiple Oracle reps may compete for the same business in a single account, and some bad behavior results. With the acquisitions, this is changing somewhat, and there are pockets of accounts teams that work as a team, but long time Oracle employees seem to have that competitiveness that emanates from Larry.
