      Pros

      They pay a competitive salary and promote from within. The environment is collaborative and congenial.

      Cons

      The location is a drawback -- no parking, and public transit isn't always ideal. Because they promote from within so much, it's difficult to break in to the mid-level jobs from the outside. Lack of state funding can make the economic environment volatile. Work-life balance can be greatly dependent upon your immediate supervisor.
