Pros

Great pay if you want to work 6 am to 8 pm, and 6 to 8 hrs Saturday. I lasted 3 to 4 months. Grossing near 5k each month.

Cons

Too many hours. I serviced 7 counties and the ladies in the office thought all accounts were 5 minutes apart. Which led to me putting in super long days to service all residential accounts they scheduled. When corporate got a call and got a service this time was not considered during your day making it even longer. Supplies stocking was an issue to perform my job. Why would you need glue boards? (When it is supposed to be all ipm). I was the only employee putting in enough hours for overtime and that pay was not paid correctly. The office needed route planning software as the lack of knowledge that towns are more than 5 minutes away from each other. I replanned my route as orkin asks you to do and the office still scheduled however they felt. The worst part was 1 office employee was known for throwing checks away to get employees in trouble, I was highly offended when I was accused of stealing and asked repeatedly to visit that customers house and demand a new check. ( This was a franchise and not corporate)

Pros

Your on your route by yourself most of the time no management hanging above your head. You have insurance, 401k, and stock options.

Cons

Pest control technician: This is a commission based pay ONLY you may find one branch that will higher you for hourly but 9/10 techs were on commission. The pay is terrible slightly less than 35k a year while working 45-65 hours weekly. That might not seem terrible to some but your NOT getting paid on every job you do. It should be higher for the amount of jobs you do. Now it does depends on your route. You could have a nicer neighborhood or you can have a lower quality neighborhood and it seems you work more for less pay. Overtime is less than minimum wage due to commission structure. Seriously, I don’t think it’s illegal due to pay structure but it needs to be looked into. The problem is that you get paid for the initial job only so if a customer calls back and needs you to come back out before their next service it’s free to them and they automatically schedule you out after the first service MOST of the time and you don’t get paid for that or any other “callback” or “follow up” service. Which literally happens every day with multiple customers a day due to the pest issues the customers may face. Office makes the schedule now. So there are terrible issues with over scheduling 2 hour time slots and it’s up to the technician to make it work. It doesn’t. Personally I felt I could never take a vacation because they just move up your customers on an already busy day. So it’s not a vacation away at all. Forget taking one in the summer. Work day hours differ here and there. You could be home at 3 one day (usually in the winter only) but your usually getting off at 5:30 6 o’clock. Now they are scheduling people 6-8 am for you. So 10-12 hour days are a regular thing with the occasional 7-8 hour day in (the winter). No work/life balance for technicians. They say they will work with you but it’s really like pulling teeth.

Pros

Biggest pest control company in US. Highest industry standards and professionalism. Over 100 years old. Technology leader. Provides company car for residential sales force, and car expenses for commercial sales. Offers a base salary which declines as commissions improve. They claim to have the best training in the industry. They might. It's good but could be improved a lot more than they think. Training for sales people and technicians is ongoing forever which is good.

Cons

Mostly regarding SALES: It is a micro managed small company that became the largest in the industry. It thinks it's a large company, but in many ways is managed like a small company that grew large. Some outdated computer and training technology. Sales force is managed by a branch manager, not a sales manager. Big difference. Huge number of bugs and critters to learn about. Busy season is shorter in more northern states, in many states it can be a half year or less. This leaves a significantly reduced earnings potential in the slow season. This is inherent in the industry, not the company. High pressure from management to upsell. So with training they give a shotgun approach to learning a little about everything. But they don't train you intensively to be good or knowledgeable about any one thing first that will make the most money. No emphasis to build a relationship with clients and save some of the upselling for later. Relatively middle or below earnings potential for a full time outside salesperson. But a good career-minded person can make a respectable living. It is a D2C business. Can require evening and weekend time in busy season. Maybe lots. Better earnings potential in places with more bugs and critters with a longer busy season. Benefits package is below average.
