Pros

Good software, interesting industry, some really smart and friendly people.

Cons

Disruptive software is built to cut down on time spent for development tasks but add no actual innovation for adding immediate business value. But the development environment is quickly learned by their global services team that makes a killing on their margins since all project services are run centrally at the home offices in PT. Pay scale disparity between US employees and PT employees breeds distrust. Outsystems would be out of business if all employees across the world were paid on a similar scale. Work-life balance? What's that? The company's ultimate goal is to replace all their high-skilled employees with someone from PT who is cheaper. They don't even hide this. Home office commonly sends people from PT to the US just to work in the US who live here temporarily and make much less than a US citizen. Abuse of Portugal's 'Contacto' program that works student graduates crazy hours and pays them like interns. US employees spend almost as much time getting approval to do work from the home office as they actually spend doing work. Cultural disparities with extreme changes annually: It's extremely difficult to maintain any kind of identity in the US when the management makes major changes to processes, messaging, offerings, and staff annually. US employees have a hard time lasting here since their contributions are not valued, they are constantly overuled by their managers in Lisbon, and the prospect of 'moving up' or getting a raise disappears under the weight of unrealistic executive expectations and 'flavor of the week' KPIs. Software is very hard to sell since it's just another tool in the tool shed, one that by the way costs more than 30k per year. Software developers would just as soon write apps with a more flexible tool.

Thanks for your feedback. We appreciate your perspective on our significant growth - particularly regarding growing pains in the US. Fortunately, things have changed since you were here. We have grown the US team by almost 50% each successive year. We have added senior-level positions in the US including our Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Revenue Officer, our investors, and two new board members and advisors. We have realigned, fine-tuned and redesigned processes, messaging, and talent acquisition to ensure we are successful and autonomous in the US. These efforts have had a major impact resulting in excellent outcomes for our customers and employees.

Pros

OutSystems is at an amazing junction of market opportunity, strong execution, and growth mindset. This equates to a a workplace that: - has tons of growth opportunities for people looking for them - is immersed in one of the highest growth software categories for years to come - has a good ratio of growth chaos / stable culture - continues to be demanding, mostly apolitical, and more and more focused on employee happiness

Cons

Watching OutSystems grow can at times be a painful experience because things you loved are transforming (mostly for the better). But if you take the long view, these are actually opportunities and not cons at all. Also, the coffee kind of sucks :)
