Pros

Half day Fridays every week

Cons

While the company stresses amazing company culture and benefits, what this means in reality is that they will low ball you on salary in exchange for half day Fridays - which even then most employees other than brand new juniors end up working much longer than just 4 hours on Friday. Lower salary, the bottom estimate you see on Glassdoor is the max possible amount you will make year one. Forces new grads to work as interns for 3 months (getting intern pay) despite already having their degree and prior internships, this reduces your 12 month gross way below market rates (subtract $10k from the lower bound of salary estimate on Glassdoor and this is what you will gross best case scenario year 1). Project flow is heavily group dependent. If you are hired into an underperforming group request to transfer or make friends with seniors who have solid project flow ASAP otherwise you will be SOL come bonus and promotion time. Lack of internship structure, high HR turnover, etc. If you are an engineering grad with a 3.5+ GPA don’t waste your time with this company as almost every other company offer you receive will be vastly superior. Most of the “engineers” who have been here a while are from community colleges with abysmal GPA’s which should tell you everything you need to know. Company prides themselves on innovation but the only innovative thing is finding new ways to nickel and dime employees to save costs by under paying employees. 401(k) vesting schedule is laughable taking 7 years for 100% vest at 20% a year with 0% the first year. Limited options within 401(k) plan basically picking between crummy mutual funds or a basic index fund.

Pros

I have had the opportunity to learn so much in only three months by working at P2S. Pretty much everyone here is super friendly, even the managers and owners! Other than that, there are a ton of fun learning opportunities for all the interns, such as a behind the scenes tour of the Aquarium of the Pacific and a boat tour of the Port of Long Beach. In addition to all this, P2S has shown that they truly care about their employees by having an innovative incubator team, public speaking Toastmasters club, fitness room with showers, zen room with a massage chair, yoga class, and catered lunch for learning sessions usually one to three times a week! If you want to sharpen your brain, make new friends, and have a belly full of food, then this is the place for you.

Cons

Many times interns might find themselves with nothing to do since the managers might not have time or know how to train the intern in that subject. Depending on which group an intern gets placed in, he or she might not learn as much as some of the other interns since there is no learning curriculum that all interns go through. In their down time, they can definitely train certain skillsets and learn things on their own from research, but I don't see the point of working at a company with amazing engineers and learning opportunities just to learn things we could have done at home.

We are excited that you are enjoying your intern experience. At P2S we strive to maintain a learning culture where our interns can be introduced to various assignments, working on different projects, and exposing them to different career opportunities within consulting engineering. We spend considerable time every year developing our intern programs so our interns can bond with other interns, learn in our incubator programs and have fun while doing so. We appreciate your recommendation on ensuring an even platform amongst all interns placed in the various groups and we will incorporate your suggestion going forward. Thanks for being part of our intern program!

Disappointing Lack of Accountability and Direction

Pros

Some very talented and well-meaning individuals doing good technical work. Exposure to diverse clients and projects, especially in the public sector. Autonomy is possible if you’re self-driven and take initiative. The company promotes social engagement and hosts regular internal events.

Cons

A consistent lack of accountability—commitments are often missed with no consequences or follow-up. Recognition and promotions appear to be based more on internal visibility and popularity than on results or contributions. Many efforts stall due to indecision or lack of follow-through from leadership. Strategy is unclear and execution is often inconsistent. Culture can prioritize appearances and internal relationships over actual performance. Individuals who avoid collaboration or under-deliver are still supported, while those who take initiative are often left without backup.
