      It's hard to beat!

      Pros

      -Insanely great benefits. -Lots of room for cross-training and moving up if you really want to. -Can be flexible with hours, especially if you're in school. -Good money, especially if you run a department. -Great co-workers and clean stores.

      Cons

      -There are many breakdowns in communications at various levels of management. -Too many new hires make it through their 90-day period without any strict evaluation. -Journeyman wages barely ever increase. -Too many under-qualified employees receive promotions due to "keeping labor costs in check."

      Pros

      Knowledgable co-workers. Good company culture. Unionized - solid union contract, automatic salary bumps, incredible benefits, excellent employee discounts, promotion from within.

      Cons

      No pay increase in place for department leads = added responsibility without added compensation. Most store employees have to start at Courtesy Clerk level regardless of professional background. Internal politics can be sticky.

      Pros

      Wholesome environment with good staff. Great to work with products and people that I wanted to support. Benefits were very good. If managers saw you were engaged in your work and wanting to help, you could get all kinds of support.

      Cons

      Scheduling was inconsistent and unpredictable. Made scheduling and keeping appointments and participation in other activities very difficult. Location to report to would occasionally (rarely) change on very short notice. Retail environment is not for everyone.
