Pros

NPCL has a huge data base of lessons learned from past projects. You can easily contact someone in the company that may have experience with a problem you may be experiencing on a project. Employee owned company. Health benefits are good. 401k is good.

Cons

NPCL preaches that they promote from within, but when you have worked for the company for 5 years and NPCL chooses to hire someone with 2 years industry experience, instead of promoting you. "Yea we promote from within." NPCL is not team oriented, and very cliquey. People at NPCL are quick to pass blame, no one owns up to their mistakes. Favoritism abounds at NPCL. Only the manager's pets, get promoted and recognized. They almost seem to gain immunity when problems arise, and the blame is quickly passed to another "teammate." Expect to have no life. If you are on a project, you are expected to work 10-11hrs minimum

Pros

Life insurance is 4 times your salary which your family will need when this company kills you. PCL= People Come Last

Cons

During COVID 19 they will NOT let their employees work from home. Even when they are exhibiting symptoms of the virus. They do not care for the livelihood of their people. Terrible company. Everyone can die as long as they make money.

The type of situation you describe is not aligned to PCL’s commitment to safety and our people. As of March 17, PCL implemented a company-wide work from home strategy, which advises employees to work remotely. Construction continues to be considered an essential service by our governments and as such various positions are not conducive to remote working. Consequentially, PCL does have in place very strict job-site polices which are intended to keep people safe. What you describe is not aligned with our commitment to safety, so I encourage you to provide details via our confidential ethics hotline or reach out to us at glassdoor@pcl.com.

Pros

I wish I could say more here, but every opportunity I have allowed this company, I have been disappointed (disappointed, but not surprised).

Cons

Just take a look at the Senior Leadership profiles and you will see exactly what is represented at PCL...a lot of white men. This company preaches diversity and inclusion, but does not live it. It is VERY apparent in the population, in addition to the raises, bonuses, and opportunities. I am shocked they are able to operate this way in 2019, but just hang around for a while and you will see it instantly. The few minorities are definitely exploited, not rewarded appropriately and the management team just keeps rewarding themselves. Not a place I would recommend working if you are not on board with inequality. Also beware...PCL tries to sell the shares and "employee ownership" as a benefit and it is their excuse for not meeting rival companies salaries. IT IS NOT WORTH IT unless you plan on staying with PCL for 20 years (and maybe even not worth it given the current climate of the company) - do your research! PCL used to be on the Forbes Best companies list, but their rating kept getting worse and of course, they are no longer on the list!
