Pennymac is the type of company that wants to squeeze the most possible out of employees while giving as little as possible in return.
- vacation policy - 2 weeks (3 weeks after five years). pretty pathetic compared to what some companies are offering
- holidays - only 8 per year. So if you are accustomed to getting the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas eve off, you'll be spending two of your meager 10 vacation days for that.
- health insurance is expensive and not very good
- even stingy about bathrooms. Never have I been at a company where on a daily basis I had to go to another bathroom because the one I went to was full
- seems gung ho about open seating (I think this is so they can watch you continuously). there seems to be a mistrust of employees, assuming people will not do their jobs if they aren't out in the open. (also reflected in the policy that nobody can work from home because they won't know if you are working). I guess they don't realize they can look at your work output / quality to see if you are doing a good job?
- no raises for cost of living. If you are just doing your job and not striving for promotion (some people don't want more money for more responsibility, they are happy at their level), you won't get a raise. Which means as the years go by, you are effectively paid a little less each year.
Of course they say that they are working to improve the culture. I seriously don't expect much to change. The person they hired to work on it (exec level) quit after one month.
