Countrywide 2.0?

Pros

My direct manager was fantastic, and the onsite facilities were pretty good. Which is handy, considering they practically wanted you to live there.

Cons

I predict that PennyMac will have severe issues within the next 2 years similar to Countrywide. Upper management has an extremely adversarial stance against all internal governance efforts; to the point that they browbeat you into removing findings from reports. They are compensated for not having findings, so rather than work on fixing anything, they just fight and whine until they are removed off reports. Everyone loses when that happens. On a personal note they expected 60 hrs a week to be normal starting point, so a normal work-life balance was impossible; and I had recently been laid off my prior job so they brought me in at 2 levels lower and a severely cut paycheck because they knew they could take advantage of my situation. It wasn't until I resigned, and they realized just how much I brought to the table, that they attempted to bring me back to a level near what I had previous. Is it any surprise that talent doesn't stick around? Oh and good luck getting the 3-4 weeks of vacation everyone else is providing, they only offer 2 here.

Pros

not a far commute from where I live. There really is none. There aren't even enough microwaves to heat food.

Cons

hmm... There is no room for growth. Even when you switch positions your pay doesn't increase. We were told we would get a bonus and guess what? they took it back lol. Benefits are terrible, morale is terrible, communication within internal parties is HORRIBLE. Goodluck asking a question to another department and getting a response. Even when your manager reaches out to the other department sometimes they still don't respond. The place is laughable. If I could give negative stars I would.

Company culture is terrible

Pros

1. The company has a great cafeteria at the corporate headquarters in Moorpark. Seriously, that's the best thing about the company. 2. The company now has several sites, so if Moorpark isn't doable, one of the other locations might work for you. 3. Prior to working at PennyMac, I worked at Bank of America in the same position. PennyMac paid about 30% more than the bank.

Cons

PennyMac's company culture is terrible. Employee morale is generally awful. If you're fortunate enough to have a good manager, that helps. But overall, people aren't happy to be working there. There is no such thing as work-life balance. Perhaps senior managers enjoy work-life balance, but even that is doubtful.
